Kartik Cultural Festival
Nahar Singh Mahal

November 2nd to 7th, 1996.


On November 2, 1996, on the eleventh day of the bright and auspicious autumnal month of Kartik, the splendid old palace of Raja Nahar Singh will come alive to the sound of music, the movement of dance, and the festive gaiety of celebration. For six days and nights, this 18th-century architectural jewel will sparkle with the reflected light of some of India's most brilliant performing artiswts, and with the lively color of folk dancers and performers, acrobats and jugglers, caparisoned elephants, magicians and divining cows, astrologers and palm-readers, 19th-century royal cuisine and couture, and much, much more.
Nahar
The First Kartik Cultular Festival will feature several of India's most famous dancers and musicians, and will include a show of royal fashions from the mid-19th century, performances by award-winning folk troupes from across the country , and myriad other events. In the beautiful pavilions and courtyards of the restored mahal, guests will experience these great artists much as did Nahar Singh and his fellow princely patrons of teh past-with intimacy, with regal grace, and in a traditional ambience.


The Kalbelia Dance

Haryana Tourism, pioneers in Highway Tourism, launch the uniqueKartik Cultural Festival Nahar Singh Mahal on 2nd November 1996. The festival will continue to the 7th November this year. It will be an annual event held within the recently renovated Nahar Singh Mahal (fort) at Ballabgarh, (40 km from interstate bus terminal in Delhi and 45 km from the Indira Gandhi International airport).


"Charkula" dance

Nahar Singh Mahal Kartik Cultural Festival will be held from 2nd to 7th November 96' at Ballabgarh. The ambience of the Cultural festival will be historic, matching that of a Palace. Watchmen and courtiers wearing traditional clothes of the times will man the Mahal.

A food feast will also be organised within the fort. Stalls serving south Indian foods, cold drinks, ice-cream, baked potatoes and traditional foods will be served. Seating for the public will be on Durries -- a traditional form of floor covering.


Punjabi Folk Artists

Entry to the Cultural festival will be through tickets priced at Rs.5/- for the day. Entry to evening performances will be through tickets priced Rs.300/- per person. Tickets for the entire Festival may be purchased at a concessional charge of Rs. 1000/-

Other attractions at the festival will be ladies decorating palms with henna, bangle sellers, face reader, kite fliers. Astrologers and palmists will be also present. Martial arts displays, folk dancers and handicrafts bazars will also be on display during the

The festival will open to the general public from 9.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. Special evening performances will be held from 6 p.m. onwards.
