Pyar Kiya To Darna Kiya is hardly any improvement over his previous flop Auzaar in terms of direction. It is just a rehash of an old formula of love being opposed by the family (this time elder brother) and finally love triumphing. |
| Chacha
Thakur (Dharmendra) stays with his nephew Vishal (Arbaaz
Khan) and niece Muskan (Kajol). Vishal is very arrogant
and too protective about his sister Muskan. Vishal agrees
to send Muskan to the city to study in college. Muskan falls in love with Suraj (Salman Khan) who is the sole heir of a millionaire and studies in the same college. But their love affair is not approved by Vishal and he gets into a fight with Suraj. Vishal takes Muskan back home. The rest of the film is about how Suraj makes all attempts to impress Vishal and finally wins Muskan. There are also some villains in the film who are trying to grab lands which do not belong to them. Ultimately love triumphs over all the hurdles. It is a different Salman in this film (one reason is his versatile performance and the other is that he removes his shirt every two minutes). Instead of being very romantic, he has shown more of his comic antics in which he has been very successful. He is good in song sequences. Kajol does not have much scope. She has not put any extra effort to rise above the script. Arbaaz Khan's character is not very well-defined but under proper direction could have performed very well. Dharmendra does not have an important role. And yes, there is Anjala Zaveri who plays the role of Arbaaz's heroine. She hardly has anything to do. The highlight of the film is its music which has already become very popular. The title track, "Odh Li Chunariya Tere Naam Ki" could quite easily have been titled "Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya". It has lyrics by Sudhakar Sharma and music by Himesh Reshamiya, whose only claim to fame so far is the title song of the TV soap, 'ANDAZ'; however, the track is well tuned and rather intricate. It's just a pity that the freshness of the composition is dampened somewhat by the ubiquitous singing pair, Alka Yagnik and Kumar Sanu! Iqbal Sabri and Afzal Sabri join Anupama Deshpande to sing what else but a qawwali, "Teri Jawani Badi Mast Mast Hai". Iqbal Sabri has written the lyrics which are tuned by Sajid Wajid, creating a qawwali in true 'Sabri Bros.' style. The rest of the soundtrack belongs to Sameer and Jatin-Lalit. |
