| But one
would be discounting the loyal governors who substitutes
her own son for the Crown Prince, thus saving his life
and packs him off to the Himalayas with a sadhu. Now this
rare act has only been chronicled once before in history.
Something of the sort happened to Maharana Pratap way
back in some century. Now this is just the sort of
thing that Bollywood assumes the cinegoer will ooh and
aah over.
So we get the movie 'Maharaja'.There are some concessions
to the 21st century for the Crown Prince has these
superpowers where he can melt metal just by looking at
it, so obviously melting the heart of the customary
damsel is just child's play - in this case a TV hostess
who wants to take him with her and wow the town!
But then
destiny calls and the Crown Prince locks horns with the
aforesaid scheming uncle, frees his kingdom and the
governess who had been aging gracefully in chains. There
is joy and cheer all around and everyone lives happily
everafter.
A great
movie to go to provided you leave your brains behind. Its
totally out of sync with reality right down to the
casting. Imagine having the journey bouncy Govinda as a
Maharaja!Granted there are people living in some nooks
and crannies in India for whom the world stops where the
jungle begins-but that's the stuff for documentaries. We
have long ago packed away our kings and kingdoms, so let
them collect their cobwebs in peace.
