Dillagi |
Right from the time this movie was launched, there was a major hype surrounding it due to Sunny Deol turning director. The racy and colourful promos on T.V. added to the viewer's excitement and before the movie released it made it on the must-see list of every teeny-bopper in town.
Sadly, apart from its superb production values the film does not have anything new to offer. It's the same old love triangle served up with a slightly different flavour, yet syrupy sweet and bubble gum frothy. Sunny plays Ranvir a rich, mature, responsible brother (remember Pyar Koi Khel Nahin) who has promised his dying mother to look after his younger brother Rajvir (Bobby Deol). Bobby is wild, reckless a spoilt brat who's having the time of his life with all the girls chasing him (remember Apoorv Agnihotri in Pyar Koi Khel Nahin and Saif Ali Khan in "Yeh Dillagi").
So while elder brother, Ranvir builds a five star hotel and does all that Bade Bhaiya is supposed to be doing, (Must be easy for Sunny since he really does like to take charge of Bobby's affairs in real life too!)Rajvir or Rocky is busy singing songs & romancing the girls. Shalini (Urmila) is the girl in love with Rocky who in turn just kind of fancies her. Meanwhile Bade Bhai too falls for the same girl, whom he spots at a traffic signal and later at a wedding where he accompanies his grandmother (Zohra Sehgal). Sunny soon discovers he's in love with Urmila. Urmila's parents are informed and matters are fixed who upon discovering that Urmila has been seeing Bobby force her to marry Sunny instead . Sunny though heartbroken, bows out with grace after learning from Urmila that her affections lie else where. Urmila, on the other hand suffers a rude jolt when Bobby shows no signs of cementing their relationship and makes it quite clear that he is not ready to be tied down yet, not when he's having such a ball! So Urmila resigns herself to a loveless existence and decides not to marry. But wait, it doesn't end here. Not yet! Sunny gets into the act once again and wins over Urmi. To make matters complicated Bobby too realises that he does love her after all. So, here we leave you to ponder at the mysteries of human relationships and to work out the long drawn out climax. Sunny is comfortable as the strong, silent type, which he's so adept at playing. Urmila adds the right dose of pouts and glamour while Bobby Deol comes up with a real neat & punchy act. Must say his good looks & (recently discovered) talent make for an irresistible combo. |
