Baadshah
Starring: Shah Rukh Khan, Twinkle Khanna
Director: Abbas Mustan

Director Abbas Mustan excels in racy, formula entertainers which have the right mix of action, romance and hungama. 'Shahrukh', the uncrowned king of tinsel town plays the title role with usual aplomb and sense of timing. The catch word here is 'usual'. Actually, though Shahrukh fans can see nothing wrong in his performance, his critics would surely like to see more variety in his bag of tricks and mannerisms.

Shahrukh is Raj, also known as Baadshah, engaged in 'Solving petty cases as a small-time private detective. He has a gang of four sidekicks (Johny Lever and Co.) who add their bit to liven up the proceedings.

The female lead is played by Twinkle Khanna whose father, Avtar Gill has hired Baadshah to convince his rebellious daughter to marry a man of her father's choice. The predictable happens amid song and dance routine and playful wooing by Shahrukh who ends up winning the maiden. Meanwhile, the proceedings in the second half are dominated by events arising out of a crazy mix-up where Shahrukh gets mistaken for another Baadshah (Deepak Tijori).

The music is fast & racy with fairly enjoyable dance sequences. Shahrukh rules as Baadshah, with shades of that original spy of all times 007, but infusing him with his own inimitable brand of zany humour. Twinkle is not required to do much except look glamorous. Wish she would get over her obsession for tank tops and that hideous pink & black combination which pops up in her wardrobe ever so often. Shahrukh can get ready to chalk up another hit to his credit.
