Regarding Transport
There are no yellow-tops in
Chandigarh; only tourist taxis
are available for which charges
are negotiable, However, approved
rates for commercial vehicles
should be ascertained from the
office of CITCO.
Auto-rickshaws are easily
available; prices negotiable.
Pre-paid services for
auto-rickshaws have been
introduced at the Railway Station
and the ISBT. Metred journeys by
auto-rickshaws are in the
pipeline. However,
cycle-rickshaws are the most
extensively used mode of
transport in the city.
Inter-State
Bus Terminus Complex (ISBT) in
Sector 17 is the hub of all
roadways activity. It houses a
post office, the City Rail
Reservation office (8 am - 1:45
pm, 2 pm - 8 pm, Sundays: 8 am -
2 pm), Waiting Room, Retiring
Rooms, 3 food outlets of
Chandigarh Tourism Information
Centre (9am -5 pm), Main Taxi
Stand (24 hours), Tel 544621,
543681; and a pre-paid auto
rickshaw service. The ISBT is
located in the heart of downtown.
No regular, scheduled tours are
available in Chandigarh; CITCO,
however, arranges local
sightseeing tours subject to a
minimum load of 20 passengers.
