Akhtar lives and paints in his home studio in Redmond, WA. He is a member of the new City of Sammamish Cultural Arts Commission. Akhtar was born in Bombay, India and has studied Architecture both in India and at MIT in the US. Akhtar is mostly a self-taught artist and is involved in a number of professional and voluntary activities both internationally and in the Seattle area. He is also the author of Our Urban Future: New Paradigms for Equity and Sustainability. Akhtar paints using acrylic on canvas, paper and plywood. He creates figures of male and female form using bright colors. His paintings are colorful and expressive. He uses bright flat colors on canvas and paper, evoking the rich colors of his native India. On plywood he uses a knife and creates layers of bright colors as a relief work. He is presently working on several images of bulls both on paper and plywood. Akhtar has exhibited some of his work in India, and in Cambridge Massachusetts
