20 Easy Steps
to Put Your Site Online.
- Click on Downloads to view various site
designing templates and to download
various designing tools.
- Click on Download
now to download the design.zip file relevant to
the design
of your choice.
- Save this zip file
within a new folder.
- Unzip files. (there
will be multiple gif or jpg files and two htm
files)
- Start-up the web
page designing package of your choice i.e.
Netscape Communicator or Frontpage.
- Open the index.htm
in the designing application.
- Replace the text
with text that is relevant to your website topic.
- Select and delete
all the buttons that you do not require on your
web site.
- Open the second.htm
page in composer or Frontpage.
- Here again you will
need to remove the buttons that you do not
require.
- The
"second.htm" page is your secondary
page template, and you will need
to save this page as multiple files depending
upon how many pages are there
in your web site. For example, suppose you need a
page which is about you
or your company, you will need to go to the
"File" menu and select "save
as"
and save this file as "about.htm" or a
similar name.
- Once the
"second.htm" page has been saved as
multiple topic files, you
need to open them one by one and edit them by
adding text and pictures
to your pages.
- Once all your pages
are created, please note down their file names
on a piece of paper for handy reference.
- Open the index.htm
file and link all your buttons to the relevant
htm files. For example, the "About Us"
button shall need to be linked to the
"about.htm" file.
To link a button to its relevant file in Netscape
composer, double click the
button which opens a dialog box infront of you.
type in the filename in the
link tab in the dialog box and click on Ok. In
Frontpage right mouse click on
the button and give the file name to be linked in
the Location Label under
Default Hyperlink.
- Similarly, link all
the other buttons in the rest of the files to
the relevant pages. Please note that the home
button is already linked
to the index.htm file. You shall not need to edit
this link.
- Once all your files
are created, you need to now publish them onto
your server.
- Click on the
"Publish" button within Netscape
Composer or Frontpage.
This brings up a dialog box which asks for the
FTP location. You must have
got this at the time of receiving your login and
password.
- Select "All
files in page's folder" and click the
"select all" button.
- Click
"OK" to publish your website to your
URL.
- Check your site
online by going to your site address.
