RAMZAN is the only month in the Muslim calendar which has special mention in the Holy Koran. Ramzan is the month for prayer, self-restraint and penance. It is the month for self-introspection and during this time, all good and devout Muslims are expected to fast from sunrise to sunset, from dawn to dusk. This is known as the Roza and true Muslims will not eat or drink anything during the specified time! The fasting period lasts for a month at a stretch. This is part of the penance or time for atonement. The roza is broken at the end of the day with prayer and by eating dates. Or tasting salt. This is followed by a small meal or a snack called the iftaari. Muslims will congregate in small groups for the iftaari and share the meal.
