Lt Col Thakur Kuldeep S. Ludra (Retd.) : Bio Data

Lieutenant Colonel Thakur Kuldip S. Ludra(Retd.) was commissioned on 6 June 1954. His first Unit was 2(Derajat) Mountain battery (Frontier Force). The senior most Piffer unit in the Indian Army.

The Battery was a part of 22 Mountain Regiment, the Corps D'Elite of the Indian Army. He was the Brigade Major of an Artillery Brigade from August 1965 to March 1968. He was later the General Staff Officer Grade II of a Corps Artillery Brigade from February 1972 to June 1975. He took part in the 1962 Operations as an Observation Post Officer, at Bomdila. He was the Second-in-Command of the Heavy Regiment during the 1971 Operations. He retired on 30 June 1986.

Currently, he is the Deputy Director of Strategic Research Centre, a Non Government Organisation, which he along with Major General Rajendra Nath and some interested Service Officers, IAS and Police Officers as well as academicians, helped set up in June 1996. The charter of the SRC, is attached for reference.

He took to writing on Service matters after retirement. Apart from a number of articles in Defence Magazines, like the Indian Defence Review, Defence Today and the Strategic Analysis, he has also written the following books:-

  1. Pakistan India's Bete Noire. A Critical Analysis of Pakistan's Capability and Intentions.

  1. The Third Rate Citizens. A Study of Why There Are No Takers For Defence As A Career

  1. Afghanistan Research Papers

  1. 'Operation Pawan'. A Critical Analysis of the Sri Lankan Operations.

At present he is working on two research projects, viz.: Threat Perceptions to India in the over all world's geo-political scenario, titled ' India Besieged' and a suggested National Security Doctrine for India tentatively titled 'National Security Papers'.
